Birdwatching Tour — Cotubanama & Mirador de Bayahibe

An early morning immersion into the Dominican Republic's richest birdwatching territory — inside a protected national park, then along the serene waterfront of Mirador de Bayahibe.

About the Tour

Two of the DR's finest birding spots in one unforgettable morning.

The tour begins before the heat rises inside Cotubanama National Park — one of the most biologically diverse protected areas in the Caribbean. The park's dry tropical forest and coastal lagoons are home to an extraordinary range of bird species, including endemic Dominican birds found nowhere else on earth. Dario and his guides know the paths, the perches, and the calls.

After the park, you move to the tranquil Mirador de Bayahibe — a peaceful waterfront promenade where wading birds, herons, and shorebirds gather in the calm morning light. It's a natural complement to the forest, and a beautiful way to close out a morning spent truly in nature.

Itinerary

The best birds are found before noon.

  • Early Morning

    Hotel Pickup

Dario or your guide collects you early — birds are most active at dawn and the park is best explored before the heat of the day.

  • First Stop

    Cotubanama National Park

Enter the park's dry tropical forest and coastal edges. Spot endemic species, migratory visitors, and the colourful birds that call this protected landscape home. Dario's guides know exactly where to look.

  • Deep in the Park

    Lagoon & Coastal Edges

Move to the park's lagoon margins and shoreline habitats — prime territory for herons, egrets, frigatebirds, and shorebirds feeding in the calm shallows.

  • Second Stop

    Mirador de Bayahibe

A serene waterfront promenade where birds concentrate in the soft morning light. Wading birds, pelicans, and open-water species round out a perfect morning list.

A relaxed drive back. Drop-off at your hotel or accommodation.

Respectful of nature, guided by locals who know it.

All tours operate with full respect for protected park regulations and wildlife disturbance guidelines. Group sizes are kept small so birds are never startled and habitats are never disturbed. Dario's guides are experienced naturalists with deep ties to these landscapes.
